For all those who consider themselves “Sherlocked,” I’m sure you must be bursting with excitement for the newest season of BBC’s Sherlock coming New Year’s Day, Jan. 1, 2014.
I know the wait has been tiresome and seemingly endless but the highly anticipated premiere will arrive in just a few days. Season 3 is so close you can almost taste it! Speaking of taste, a couple of trailers, teasers and photos were released to the public giving all of us a small taste of what to expect in the upcoming season. This small sneak, however, just makes us crave Sherlock all the more. The suspense has become almost unbearable!
I know, as a fellow Sherlock fan, sharing the top four questions I’m most looking forward to seeing answered in Season 3 would definitely give some sense of relief.
Where’s Watson?
What is going on with Watson these days? Rumor has it he’s found himself a Mrs. Watson and some new facial hair; one of the trailers showed Watson with a pretty big mustache. It’s cute seeing Dr. Watson all grown up. Clearly, he’s trying to make up for his childlike attitude and excitement of discovering dead bodies and hunting down criminals with Mr. Holmes. Furthermore, according to some teasers, Watson no longer lives at the infamous 221B Baker Street apartment in London. Will Watson and Sherlock ever be roommates again? Or is the new lady in the doctor’s life here to stay?
How did Sherlock pull off that shocking jump?
So, I think we can all agree that since there is a Sherlock Season 3, there must also be a Sherlock! The final episode of Season 2 “The Reichenbach Fall” had us all in tears as we watched Sherlock jump off a building to his apparent doom. However, Sherlock had us all fooled and now the question that remains is, how did he fake his death? What clever tricks did he come up with this time? And how will Watson react to his reappearance?
Moriarty in the Morgue?
Clever Sherlock Holmes found a way to fake his death. However, there were two geniuses on that rooftop in the Season 2 finale. Now, we all want to know did Moriarty fake his death too? Will he be making appearances in Season 3? Or did Sherlock’s arch-enemy really meet his end in “The Reichenbach Fall?” There were several times during the series where I feel we all underestimated Moriarty’s evil brilliance. I’m feeling slight terror and anxiety just thinking about what lengths this villain has gone to in the past and what lengths he may reach in the future. I suppose, only time will tell. Rather, only Season 3 will tell.
“The Woman” or the Women?
Sherlock’s greatest love is his work: solving crimes, mysteries and proving he’s smarter than everyone else around him. However, one lady did manage to steal at least a small fraction of what little heart Sherlock actually has and that lady was none other than Irene Adler, otherwise known as “The Woman.” Will she make another appearance in this next season and, if not, will there be other females attempting to win Sherlock’s heart?
Being able to express all my curiosities and suspicions for Sherlock Season 3 helped with my pent up excitement. I feel a little calmer now and I hope you all do too. If all it did was introduce theories you hadn’t even thought about yet then this article has probably only added to your already overwhelming anxiety. In that case, I can’t help you my fellow fans. Just stay calm and come New Year’s Day, feel free to cry, scream, jump and yell to your heart’s content the moment you hear that catchy theme music. As you can guess, I’ll definitely be joining you. All I can say is, thank you BBC for starting the year 2014 off right with some Sherlock.
